A Plymouth dining mainstay was razed several days ago. The Big Boy restaurant on Ann Arbor Road, just west of Sheldon Road, was closed and demolished to make room for expansion of the neighboring Kroger supermarket. All that remains on the lot is Big Boy himself. He stands proudly over the demolition site, holding his delicious hamburger high in the air. Hopefully someone will preserve the figure itself. It’s something of a pop culture icon here in the midwest.

Sorry to see the old place gone. Not the greatest restaurant in town, but our family did have many quick and enjoyable meals there. Kroger’s need better parking facility more than they need a bigger store. Remember the old Great Scott store that was there?
Yeah, Big Boy’s hardly my favorite, but I’d rather have it in town than not, I suppose. I was eating lunch there one day when I first learned we were expecting our first child, so I have that nice personal memory of the place.
