Red Wing star, Chris Osgood, a fellow Plymouth resident, has maybe the coolest backyard ice rink you can imagine.  Not only is the rink really cool, there’s an old fashioned log cabin style hockey shed.  It’s a place to warm up by the fire and put on or take off your hockey gear.  Ozzie entertains the neighborhood kids at his rink.  I want to be invited so badly I can almost taste it.

Thanks to Plymouth’s own Chris Osgood, and his fellow Red Wings, on a helluva playoff run.  The Wings represent the Detroit area and the entire state of Michigan with class and dignity and they are amazing athletes that are fantastic to watch.

It’s kind of depressing that Ozzie will not be bringing the Stanley Cup to Plymouth this year, but there’s always next year.

Our local hero, Chris Osgood, has been great the last 2 games of the Stanley Cup Finals, but his team didn’t bail him out last night.  The series is tied 3 all and coming back to Detroit for game 7.

I want the Wings to win the Stanley Cup so bad I can taste and smell it.  Statistically they are overwhelming favorites, but stats don’t play the game, players do.  The Penguins can be great when they want to be.  Friday’s game could be a real nailbiter.

Whatever the outcome is, it has been great fun watching this team in yet another deep playoff run.  Chris Osgood has been spectacular and, if the Wings win, is likely to win the Conn Smythe Trophy (playoff MVP.)  Go Ozzie! Go Wings!  Bring the cup home again!

There’s a big — huge! — hockey game tonight in downtown Detroit.  The Red Wings are playing the Anaheim Ducks in game 7 of the Western Conference semi-finals.  Plymouth’s own Chris Osgood, as many of you know, is the Wings’ net minder.

It’s do-or-die for the Red Wings.  Ozzie’s been solid in the playoffs.  Here’s hoping he comes up big tonight.

ozzieIt’s that time of the year again. It’s the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Our hometown hero — he lives on Penniman — Chris Osgood helped our Detroit Red Wings get off to a great start in these playoffs. The Wings beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 4-1 last night in the first game of round 1 of the playoffs.  Ozzie had 20 saves. I didn’t see the game, but I understand a few of them were quite dazzling.

Every year Red Wings fans wring their hands about the play of the goaltender in the post season. Last year the Wings struggled early when Dominic Hasek played poorly. He was replaced by Osgood in the first round and Chris ended up being perhaps the most important player in the entire Stanley Cup playoffs. He was spectacular. This regular season, though, Ozzie struggled a bit. He didn’t have a great season. But what counts around here is how you play in the playoffs and he showed signs last night that he returned to form.

Go Ozzie! Go Wings! Bring home another cup, will ya?

I try never to stray too far afield on this blog.  If it’s not about Plymouth I don’t normally talk about it.  Since Red Wings goalie — and legend — Chris Osgood lives right here in town, I think it’s fair game.

Tonight our Detroit Red Wings raise the 2008 Stanley Cup Champions banner at The Joe before the season opener against the Toronto Maple Leafs.  We are so spoiled when it comes to hockey here in Detroit.  The Red Wings might be the best professional sports organization in all of North America.  The Wings are great guys, they love the Detroit area and they know how to win.

It’s easy to get complacent with success.  Let the Detroit Lions — who wouldn’t know success if it bit them in their collective ass — and the Detroit Tigers see how a real team gets it done.

Congratulations to Plymouth’s own Chris Osgood on yet another Stanley Cup Championship.

Go Wings!
